Puppies and small gardens
EPISODE ONE
STORY TITLE: Puppies and small gardens
TX DATE: 4th of April
PRESENTER: Trevor Cochrane
- With a little attention and care, you can train your puppies early to the way that you want them to behave in your garden. Do not leave this too late as their robust and energetic ways can lead to challenges arising later, e.g. plants being eaten and destroyed. Gentle encouragement lots of rewards and a commitment to a routine helps training them and this ensures they learn quickly.
TOILET TRAINING PUPS
- If they?re soiling inside, then pick it up the droppings and move it to their designated toilet area, ideally outdoors in one place.
- Make sure the dog sees them being taken out and placed there.
- Make sure you thoroughly clean the spot where they did it indoors so the dog doesn?t pick up on the scent and want to go again.
- Keeping the dog away from certain places they tend to wreak havoc in can be done by using repellent products like ?Get Off My Garden?. This product uses pungent organic compounds that won?t harm the dog but will not be appealing so the dog will avoid them.
ANXIETY
- Plush toys are comforting and fun. They can acts as a distraction from chewing on other things too. Cuddly Companions are specifically designed for pet wear and tear.
- A ?Cyberbone? is another good idea. They are designed not to damage teeth which can be soft at this age and keep the dog entertained.
- If you have to head to work and leave your pup then toys are a good idea. ?Puppy Kong? is ideal for puppies 2 to 9 months and it comes in sizes for small, medium and large breeds. You stuff the Kong with treats and the dog has rewards for playing with it.
REWARD GOOD BEHAVIOUR
- Meaty treats should be given to the pup every time it does something good.
- If your pup is chewing shoes, which is all too common, then ?Puppy Trainers? will work better. Also good for developing teeth and cleans off build up of tartar and plaque.
PUPS AND LAWNS
- ?Pee Posts? are an effective way to designate areas for your pup to wee.
- ?Puppies pick up the scent of a pheromone that encourages them to pee in one place instead of broadly across the lawn leaving patches everywhere.
- Puppies are sponges for love, attention and knowledge and lots of encouragement now ensures your puppy is as happy as your garden is!
